Course Objectives The aim of the course is to teach the common interior and furniture detailing solutions and equip students with necessary knowledge to be able to elaborate the ways of project applications with contemporary materials, technologies and techniques in order to provide unique and innovative design details. While focusing on details of a given interior, it is concerned to provide a consciousness about clearances, standards, space requirements of relevant interior units. In relation with this, required spaces for certain human postures interacting with certain units and fixtures is scrutinized. It is also aimed to teach the principles of design communication through constructions drawings, documentation and specification. In this sense the course aims to teach basic construction drawing conventions and standards.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • will be able to work with basic materials, detailing and production techniques used in interior architecture/design.
  • will be able to comprehend the realization and applicability of a design and learn to consider the construction phase of the project while designing and drafting.
  • will be able to comprehend and utilize new techniques and materials to use in their designs.
  • will be able to use universal and/or local standards and conventions in construction documentation for meeting the regulations and required coordination between stakeholders of the construction business.
  • Will be able to gain a sufficient knowledge about standards, dimensions, norms and proper configurations about the in terior units of given spaces.

Course Description This course teaches technical details and knowledge related to interior detailing and enables students to use these techniques and knowledge in their designs. Each week consists of two sessions. The first session is a lecture, a presentation or a discussion and the second session is the workshop where the students will work on construction drawings, detailing, drafting, dimensions, standards and specifications.
